From Three to Four | A December In-Home Newborn Session with the Johnston Family

It’s always something special to welcome a newborn at home—especially in December. The light is softer, the pace is slower, and everything feels a little more intentional.

This in-home newborn session with the Johnston family took place close to Christmas, and it felt like stepping into a calm, meaningful pause in the middle of a busy season.

I first photographed them when they were a family of three. Being invited back—now as a family of four—is a trust I don’t take lightly.

There’s a difference when a family invites you back. It feels familiar in the best way—less posing, more presence.

You already know each other. The kids settle quicker. Parents exhale. And I get to document what’s real in this season, not what it’s “supposed” to look like.

Choosing Privacy Without Losing Story

From Three to Four

Photographing the transition from one chapter to the next is one of the most meaningful parts of what I do.

These images are for the future version of you—the one who will forget how small the newborn days felt, and how full they were at the same time.

The Johnston family chose to keep their children’s faces and eyes mostly private, and I always honor that with care.

The truth is—story doesn’t require faces. It lives in the way tiny fingers curl, the way parents hold, the way a sibling leans in close, and the way home feels in those first weeks.

Johnston family—thank you for trusting me again. Being welcomed back into your home to document this season is something I hold with so much care.

If you’re expecting and want a relaxed, story-driven in-home newborn session, I would be honored to create something meaningful for you, too.
